Channels
Four, all of them attachable to any monitor.
Webhook. A JSON POST. The body carries the structured payload plus text and content
aliases, which is what makes a single endpoint work with Slack, Discord, Mattermost and plain
automation receivers without per-provider configuration. Full schema:

Email. Sent over SMTP with the failure reason, the target and the time the incident opened.
ntfy. Push notification to your phone with no account, no app store login and no token — subscribe to an unguessable topic and the URL is the credential. Title, priority and tags are set from the incident, so a down alert arrives as high priority with an alarm icon.
Telegram. A message to a chat or group via a bot you create. Two minutes with BotFather, and the setup guide includes the trap that makes a fresh bot look broken.
A channel that fails is recorded and retried on the next reminder — it never changes what a monitor believes about its target. Delivery is attempted after state is already committed, so a webhook returning 500 forever cannot make a monitor look up or down.
Reminders while still down
Most monitoring alerts once, at the transition. That single message is a single point of failure: if SMTP hiccups, if the webhook endpoint is briefly 500ing, if your phone was face down — a six-hour outage is now indistinguishable from everything being fine.
Set a reminder interval and WhatPing repeats the alert while the incident stays open, with the elapsed time in the message:

Off unless you turn it on, and the minimum is 5 minutes. A repeating alert on a flapping monitor is how people learn to filter your notifications into a folder they never open, and then the alert that mattered is in there too.
Reminders are recorded separately from the original alert, so “we sent it” and “it was delivered” stay distinguishable. Detail: reminders.
A second opinion
Every failure verdict comes from one vantage point. So “the site is down” and “we cannot reach the site” look identical, and until you can tell them apart you are guessing at 3am.
When an incident opens on an HTTP monitor, WhatPing asks an independent network to fetch the same URL, and labels the incident with what it found:

It never delays the alert. Confirming an unreachable target can take 30 seconds, and that slow case is exactly the one worth confirming — so the alert goes out immediately and the verdict is attached when it arrives, appearing on the incident and in any reminder.
It annotates, it does not suppress. If our probe cannot reach your service and another network can, that is still a real reachability failure on one network path, and your users on that path are seeing it too. Silencing the alert would turn a partial outage into silence.
Say what this is. One independent network path, not a global probe fleet. It is genuinely useful and it is not multi-region probing. If you need checks from twelve locations, Better Stack sells that.

The delivery ledger
Every send attempt is recorded — which channel, which incident, which reminder, whether it succeeded, and the error if it didn’t.
This exists because the worst state for an alerting system is one where a channel has been quietly failing for weeks and everyone believes it works. A ledger turns that from a discovery during an outage into something visible beforehand.

No SMS, no phone calls, no PagerDuty or Opsgenie, and no on-call scheduling. If your process needs a rotation and an escalation policy, WhatPing is not the tool for it yet.
